INTRODUCING MARTIN BROWNE CONTEMPORARY

 

We are pleased to announce the gallery’s relocation to an exciting new space at 15-21 Hampden Street, Paddington. A restored 1930s industrial Art Deco Building - formerly the home of Servis Industries - the new premises will include two galleries with three times our current amount of exhibiting space, as well as first floor offices and stockroom and an extensive outdoor exhibition area. Reflecting the shift in focus that has taken place over the gallery’s 20 year history, we will reopen on 20th July as Martin Browne Contemporary with the inaugural exhibition to be by Wynne Prize finalist Neil Frazer. Titled Fracture, the exhibition will feature works inspired by Frazer’s recent journeys to North West and Central Australia.

The gallery will operate from our current Potts Point address until mid June.

ILDIKO KOVACS DOWN THE LINE 1980-2010 AT HAZELHURST REGIONAL GALLERY

 

A survey exhibition spanning 30 years of Ildiko Kovacs’ practice is currently on view at Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre in southern Sydney.

The exhibition, curated by Daniel Mudie Cunningham, presents a considered and in-depth reading of one of the country’s most recognised mid-career abstract painters. Accompanying the exhibition is a significant publication produced for the occasion of the exhibition with essays by Daniel Mudie Cunningham and Terence Maloon.

TIM MAGUIRE – NEW PSYCHEDELIA AT THE UQ ART MUSEUM

Works by Tim Maguire are currently on view in the exhibition New Psychedelia at the UQ Art Museum. Curator Sebastian Moody has selected two works by Maguire; the film, Brisbane River and lightbox, Redleaf II which is held in the UQ Art Museum collection.

GUAN WEI - OCAT CONTEMPORARY ART TERMINAL, SHENZHEN, CHINA

Guan Wei’s solo museum exhibition ‘Spellbound’ is currently on view at the OCT Contemporary Art Terminal, Shenzhen, China.

For this exhibition, Guan Wei and a small team of assistants spent a month in the 1300 square meter exhibition space creating a series of large scale wall paintings that will only be seen for the duration of the exhibition. Following the exhibition closure on June 15, much of the work will be destroyed. gallery will operate from our current Potts Point address until mid June.

The exhibition at OCAT will round off an extremely successful beginning to the year for Guan Wei who recently realized a record auction result at Sotheby’s International’s The Ullens Collection - The Nascence of Avant Garde China, reaching the price of HKD$ 1,100,000 (AUD$133,000) for the artist’s painting Playing with Strings (1987).

Guan Wei’s first exhibition with Martin Browne Contemporary will run from October 12 – November 6th at the new Hampden Street premises.
